4/17/06 11:48 am - fiend1981 - Hello

I may be doing a PGCE at Nottingham Uni from September, so I've been looking into what the nightlife etc is like in the city. Howeve, with Indie being a bit of an umbrella term, it's a bit difficult to tell what's good/what's shite from the internet research I've done thus far. Could anyone give the 'inside scoop' so to speak?

When at home, this is where I'd normally go- anything similar would be pretty ace!

This impressed me at least on paper, anyone been to it?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Smb. from Ukraine asked me to find his guy.
His name is John Anagarika Siddhartha and he beleived to live in Nottingham. All I know is that he is tall , in his 70ties, he has seen Dalay Lama ( who has given this name to him)
Unfortunetely this is the only photo I have.
i know it looks like a joke , but it is not!
what are Buddist centres we have in Nottingham anyway?

11/13/05 10:27 pm - matt_j_heath - Nick Cave!

3/8/05 12:22 pm - beattiedee

May I recommend to everyone that they go and see John Peel electro-indie pop darlings Melys, supported by crazy surrealist band Misty's Big Adventure and Persil (who I'm told are fab too)

They are on at The Social tonight. Here's what the website says.

Tue 8th: MELYS + PERSIL + MISTY’S BIG ADVENTURE (£5/£6 8pm - 11pm)
Welsh legends and John Peel show regulars... “Edgy yet melodic songs recalling the articulate introspection of The Sundays or Belly, while Parker’s curling, elongated vowels inevitably bring Cerys Matthews to mind…" Q Magazine "Melys, from Wales stole the show with an irresistible Blondie-feel singer Andrea Parker adding to their bittersweet guitar and synthesiser pop…" Live @ Paradiso review (London Calling Festival)
Persil - “Classic laptop pop from Holland, that brings to mind Electrelane deconstructing Belle & Sebastian under the guidance of Robert Wyatt”.
For more information see: www.melys.co.uk

Anyway should be great, so everyone go and see some bands that the NME doesn't really give press to.

2/18/05 04:53 pm - general_smuts

I just joined Nottingham Trent uni in January, I'm doing a masters course!

Anyway, there didn't seem to be any communities for indie people in Notts to meet up on, so I created one of my own!

You can see what music etc i like on my info, so yeah feel free to add me if you like :-)
